**Administrator Tools → Payments** sets up taking payments through Clockwork CRM, such as deposits
and full payments on booking links. Only administrators can use it.

## How payments work

Payments are processed by Stripe, through an account of your own: one set up for you, or a Stripe
account you already have.

- Your business name is what customers see on their card statement.
- Stripe pays the money out to your bank account.
- Refunds and disputes are yours to handle, in Clockwork CRM or in your Stripe Dashboard.
- Stripe's processing fee is deducted from each payment.
- Clockwork CRM's platform fee is a percentage of what you have taken, less any refunds. The page shows
the percentage, which is 1% unless your account has a different rate. The fee is added to your monthly
Clockwork CRM invoice. There is no other charge.

## Setting up a new Stripe account

| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| **Business country** | The country your business is registered in. The list has only the countries Stripe supports. It starts on the country of the **Currency Locale** in [Instance settings](https://help.clockworkcrm.com/admin/instance-settings), or the United Kingdom. It cannot be changed once the account is created |
| **Contact email for your payments account** | The email address Stripe writes to about verification, payouts and disputes. It starts as your Clockwork CRM account's email address. Required |

1. Choose the **Business country** and check the **Contact email for your payments account**.
2. Select **Set up payments**. Clockwork CRM creates the account and takes you to Stripe.
3. On Stripe's page, sign in to Stripe or create a login, and enter your business details. Stripe
   verifies them.
4. When you are done, Stripe returns you to the **Payments** page.

## Connecting a Stripe account you already have

When it is available, **Already use Stripe?** lets you use your existing Stripe account instead of
creating a new one. Payments taken through Clockwork CRM then settle to the same balance and payouts as
the rest of your takings, and there is nothing to verify again.

1. Select **Connect your existing Stripe account**.
2. Sign in to Stripe and choose the account.
3. Stripe returns you to the **Payments** page, which says whether the account was connected.

The account must use the same currency as your Clockwork CRM account. An account in another currency is
disconnected again, and the page says which currency it uses.

A Stripe account can be connected to only one Clockwork CRM account.

Clockwork CRM can see and act on the connected account's payments. Stripe lists Clockwork CRM among the
account's connected applications, where you can disconnect it at any time.

## Your payments account

Once an account is set up or connected, the **Payments** page shows **Your payments account**.

| Item | What it shows |
|---|---|
| **Taking payments** | **enabled** when the account can take customers' payments |
| **Bank payouts** | **enabled** when Stripe can pay your balance out to your bank |
| **Account** | Your Stripe account ID |
| **Platform fee** | Clockwork CRM's fee, as a percentage of payments taken |
| **Status as of** | When the status was last checked with Stripe. It refreshes when you open the page |

**Refresh status** checks the status with Stripe again. **Open Stripe Dashboard** opens Stripe in a new
tab.

When Stripe restricts the account or is waiting for something, a message under the status says why.

### Finishing set-up

While Stripe still needs information from you, the page shows **Finish setting up**, or **Stripe needs a
little more** once you have sent your details. Select **Continue setup on Stripe** to go to Stripe's
page and provide it.

### Payments, balance and business details

Once Stripe has your details, the page also shows:

| Section | What it shows |
|---|---|
| **Payments** | Every payment taken through Clockwork CRM, with refunds and disputes |
| **Balance and payouts** | What Stripe holds for you, and when it pays out to your bank |
| **Business details and bank account** | Your business details and bank account, which you can update here |

## Taking payments on booking links

A booking link can ask for **A deposit** or **The full amount** only when **Taking payments** is
**enabled**. See [Booking links](https://help.clockworkcrm.com/admin/booking-links#payment).
