Clockwork CRM can search the register of UK companies and add the companies you find, with their
officers, as contacts. Go to **Contacts → Add Contact** and choose:

- **Find UK companies**, to search by name or registration number, or to find every company in an
  area on a map
- **Find a UK company director**, to search for a person by name and add them, linked to the
  companies they serve

Both need access to **Add Contact**. See [Teams and permissions](https://help.clockworkcrm.com/admin/teams).

When the register cannot be reached, the page says "Company search is unavailable right now. Try
again in a few minutes."

## Find UK companies

**Find UK companies** opens **Find companies**: a panel of search controls on the left and a map on
the right. **Company** and **Area** switch between the two ways to search. The page opens in
**Company** mode.

![Find companies in Company mode, with the search controls on the left and the map on the right](https://clockworkcrm.blob.core.windows.net/public-internal/docs/contacts/find-uk-companies.png?v=8f9713da)

### Searching by name or number

1. Select **Company**.
2. Type a name or a registration number into **Company name or number** and press Enter.
3. Click a company in the list to see its profile, or select **Add**.

Each result shows the company's name, registration number, legal form and address. Each company is
pinned on the map. A company whose postcode cannot be placed on the map says "not on the map".
Clicking a pin narrows the list to the companies at that spot. The cross on the "at this spot" chip
shows every result again.

**Add these** adds every company in the list that is not in Clockwork CRM yet. Use the arrows under
the list to move between pages, 50 companies at a time.

Clicking the map with nothing typed in **Company name or number** switches to **Area** and draws a
circle there.

### Searching an area

1. Select **Area**.
2. Click the map, or type a place into **Postcode or town** and press Enter. A circle is drawn
   there.
3. Choose the **Radius**, from half a mile to 25 miles. The default is 5 miles. You can also drag
the circle's edge to resize it, or its centre to move it.
4. Set any filters you need.

![An area search: a 5 mile circle on the map, the filters, and the nearest companies listed on the left](https://clockworkcrm.blob.core.windows.net/public-internal/docs/contacts/find-uk-companies-area.png?v=8adc2bfe)

The panel shows how many companies are in the circle, in how many postcodes. The list below shows
the companies nearest first, 25 to a page. Each shows its postcode, distance, status, number of
staff, turnover and website, where known. Click a pin to list the companies at that postcode, or a
group of pins to list all of theirs. When more than 10,000 companies match, the list shows the
nearest 10,000.

| Filter | What it does |
|---|---|
| **Business activity (SIC)** | Only companies with this SIC code. Type a word, such as "plumbing", or a code to find it |
| **Best grade** and **Worst grade** | Only companies with a score grade in this range. Grades run from A+ (safest) to E. Companies without a score are left out while a grade is set |
| **Min. employees** | Only companies with at least this many employees |
| **Min. turnover**, **Min. profit** and **Min. cash at bank** | Only companies with at least these figures in their latest accounts. Only companies that file a profit and loss account have a profit figure |
| **Min. age (years)** and **Max. age (years)** | Only companies of this age |
| **Active companies only** | Leaves out companies that are not active. On by default |
| **With a website only** | Only companies with a verified website of their own |
| **Loss-making only** | Only companies whose latest accounts show a loss |

Every filter except **Business activity (SIC)** is under **More filters**. The number of filters
set there is shown beside it.

To add companies from the area:

- **Add** on a company adds that company.
- **Add this page** adds the companies on the current page that are not in Clockwork CRM yet.
- **Add all** adds every company in the circle, nearest first, up to 5,000 companies at a time. When
the circle holds more, the button says **Add nearest 5,000**. On a free trial, **Add all** adds up
to 10 companies at a time.

**Add all** asks you to confirm, then runs as an import in the background. It opens
**Contacts → Import Contacts**, where it is listed as a **Company Import** named after the circle,
such as "Companies within 5 miles of Bristol". Only one area import can run at a time. See
[Importing contacts](https://help.clockworkcrm.com/contacts/importing#watching-it-run).

### Officers and tags

**Also add their officers** adds each company's officers as people who work for it. It is on by
default.

**Tag the companies you add** picks tags for the companies. Every company you add from the page gets
them, including companies that were already in Clockwork CRM.

## The company profile

Clicking a company opens its profile. It shows:

![A company profile: score, overview, latest accounts, score breakdown, year on year charts, officers, ownership and group](https://clockworkcrm.blob.core.windows.net/public-internal/docs/contacts/uk-company-profile.png?v=b34f13c2)

- the company's registration number, name, status, type, date of incorporation and website
- its score, a grade from A+ to E with a score out of 100, and its age
- **Overview**: **Registered office**, **Area**, **Business activity**, **Accounts**, **Charges** and
  **People**
- **Latest accounts**: **Turnover**, **Profit**, **Net assets** and **Cash**
- **Website**: the domain, and the phone number and email address found on it. Click one to copy it
- **Score**: what raised or lowered the company's risk
- **Year on year**: charts of the figures from the company's filings
- **Worth knowing**: warnings and Gazette notices
- **Officers**: each officer in office, with when they were appointed, when they were born, their
nationality and their email address where one has been found
- **Ownership**: the company's owners, with their share and the control they have
- **Group**: the company's parent and subsidiaries

Click an officer to see every company they serve, or a group company to see its profile. **Back**
returns to the previous profile.

**Add to Clockwork CRM** adds the company. **Also add the officers** sets whether its officers are
added too. For a company already in Clockwork CRM, **Open in Clockwork CRM** opens its record.

## What is added

A new company takes its name, registered address, registration number, business type and business
activities (SIC codes) from the register. When the company has a verified website of its own, its
website, telephone number and email address are filled in from it.

A company that is already in Clockwork CRM, with the same registration number, is not added again.
Its details are not changed. A company with the same name and no registration number is treated as
the same company, and is given the registration number.

Each officer in office who is a person is added as a person who works for the company, with their
role as their job role, such as Director or Secretary. Officers that are companies are not added.
Where an email address for an officer has been confirmed, it is added to the person.

An officer is not added when someone with the same officer number, or the same first name and
surname, already works for the company. An officer who is already in Clockwork CRM through another
company is linked to this company rather than added again.

When a company's officers have not yet been loaded from the register, the message says so. Add them
from the company's **Officers** tab within the hour. See [Companies](https://help.clockworkcrm.com/contacts/companies#officers).

Companies added with **Add all** do not run automations or send webhooks. Companies added with **Add**,
**Add these** or **Add this page** do.

## Find a UK company director

**Find a UK company director** searches every current director of a UK registered company, from
the Companies House register.

1. Go to **Contacts → Add Contact** and choose **Find a UK company director**.
2. Type a name and press Enter.
3. Select **Add** on the person, or click them to see their appointments first.

![Director search results: each person with when they were born, their nationality and their companies](https://clockworkcrm.blob.core.windows.net/public-internal/docs/contacts/find-uk-director.png?v=1f1464df)

Each result is one person, with when they were born, their age, their nationality and up to three of
their companies. Two directors with the same name are two results. **Show more** loads more results.

Clicking a person shows their **Current** and **Previous** appointments, with each company's role,
dates and status. Click a company to see its profile.

**Add**, or **Add to Clockwork CRM** on their appointments, adds the person linked to every company
they serve now, up to 25 companies. Companies not yet in Clockwork CRM are added too, without their
other officers. A person already in Clockwork CRM shows **Open** instead.
