Companies
A company record holds one organisation. Companies and people are the two contact types in Clockwork CRM. A company record holds the organisation's own details and the people who work there.
Open in Clockwork CRMEnter your Clockwork CRM address at the top of the page to open this in your Clockwork CRM.
Finding companies
The search box in the Contacts app's top bar finds companies as well as people. Contacts โ List Companies lists companies only, and narrows the list with search criteria.
This is the same search used for people. Filters control which companies come back, Show controls the columns, and Sort controls the order. See Searching contacts.
Adding a company
Contacts โ Add Contact offers three ways to add a company:
- Add a new company manually, a form for the details you already have
- Find UK companies, to search the UK company register by name, number or area. See Finding UK companies
- Bulk import companies using a CSV file. See Importing contacts
Adding a company manually
- Go to Contacts โ Add Contact and choose Add a new company manually.
- Enter the Company Name.
- Fill in any other fields you need.
- Select Save.
Save stays unavailable, with the message "Missing or incomplete fields detected.", until every required field is filled in and every field is valid. When the company is saved you see "Name has been created." and its record opens on the Timeline tab.

Adding a company from the UK register
Find UK companies searches the register of UK companies by name or registration number, or finds every company in an area on a map. It adds the companies you choose, with their officers if you want them. See Finding UK companies.
The company record
Opening a company shows its record. The left panel holds the organisation itself.
| Item | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Image | The company's image. Click it to choose a new image from the File Browser. You are asked to confirm before the old image is replaced |
| Name | The company name |
| Address | The full address. Click it to search for the address in Google Maps |
| The primary email address. Click it to copy it. An address shown struck through is on a blacklist and won't receive further bulk emails | |
| Telephone | Click it to dial the number from your device |
| Website | Click it to open the website |
| Registration Number | Click it to copy it |
| Business Type | Click it to copy it |
| Tags | The tags on the company |
| Map | A map of the address |
| Active Industry | The company's industries, from its SIC codes |
| Property groups | One section per property group, showing the properties that hold a value |
Property values behave in the same way as on a person. See The person record.
The icons under the name are the same quick actions as on a person: log or make a call, email, schedule, send an SMS, get a form link and create an opportunity. Schedule... adds the company to the new activity as a linked contact. See People.
Editing a company
- Open the company.
- Select Edit Contact in the top bar. The left panel becomes the edit form.
- Change the details. The sections are General, Business Information, Address, Active Industry, Tags and one section per property group.
- Select Save, or Cancel to leave without saving.
The edit form has the same fields as the add form, and Active Industry, where Select Industry... picks the company's industries.
Deleting a company
- Open the company.
- Select Delete Contact in the top bar.
- Confirm Are you sure you want to delete this Company.
- Confirm again at Are you really sure?.
The company is deleted permanently and you return to Contacts. Edit Contact and Delete Contact need the matching permissions. See Teams and permissions.
The tabs
The rest of the record is a set of tabs. A tab shows a count when it holds anything. Plugins can add their own tabs. On a small screen, the Company tab shows the left panel.
| Tab | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Timeline | Everything that has happened with this company, newest first |
| Emails | Emails linked to the company and to the people who work for it |
| Calls and SMS | Calls and text messages to and from the company |
| Calendar | Calendar activities linked to the company |
| Cases | Cases raised for the company |
| Projects | Projects attached to the company |
| Notes | Free-text notes written against this company |
| People | The people who work for this company |
| Sales | Opportunities involving the company |
| Bookings | Bookings made by the company's people through your booking links |
| Forms | Marketing form submissions from the company |
| Details | The company's profile from the UK company register |
| Filing | The company's Companies House filing history |
| Officers | The company's officers, now and in the past, from the register |
| Files | Documents attached to the company |
| Mailing Lists | Mailing lists the company belongs to |
| Page Views | Pages viewed on your tracked sites |
The Timeline, Notes and list tabs work in the same way as they do for people. See People. On a company, Unlink on the Emails tab unlinks the email from the company and from every person who works for the company and has it linked. The Bookings tab has a Customer column showing which of the company's people made the booking.
People
The People tab lists the people who work for this company. The tiles at the top count the People, those With email and those With a phone. Each person shows their Name, with their job role at this company, and their Email, Phone and Mobile. Click an email address or number to copy it. Click a row to open the person.
When no one works for the company, See its officers opens the Officers tab.
A person appears here because this company is one of the companies they work for. That is set on the person under Works for these companies. See People.
Companies House details
Details, Filing and Officers are read from the UK company register using the company's registration number. When the company has no registration number, or one the register does not know, these tabs say there is nothing to show.
Details
Details shows the company's profile, the same profile shown when you find a company with Find UK companies. See The company profile.
Synchronise Data updates the record from the register, after you confirm at Update from the register. It replaces the company name, address, business type and active industries. The website, telephone number and email address are only filled in where they are empty.
Filing
Filing shows the number of Filings and the date of the Latest filing, then lists the filings 25 to a page, with Date, Kind and Description. PDF opens the filed document in a new browser tab. A filing held on paper only says Paper only.
Officers
Officers shows tiles for the Officers in office, the Directors (Members for a limited liability partnership), how many are In Clockwork CRM, and any Former officers.
Time in office is a chart with a bar for each officer, from their appointment to today or to when they resigned. It includes up to 15 of the most recent former officers.
The table lists each officer in office with their role and occupation, when they were appointed, when they were born, their nationality, and their email address where one has been found. Click an email address to copy it. Click an officer to see every company they serve. Former officers lists the officers who have resigned.
- Add adds the officer as a person who works for the company. An officer who already works for the company shows Linked.
- Add all officers adds every officer in office who is a person and is not already linked to the company, after you confirm.
See What is added for how officers are added. When the company's officers have not yet been loaded from the register, the tab says so. They usually appear within the hour.
Custom properties
Anything the built-in fields do not cover goes in a custom property. Company properties are defined separately from person properties. See Custom properties.
