Task properties
A task property is a field you add to tasks yourself. Task properties are managed from Properties in a project's top bar.
Properties is only shown if your team's permissions include Project Task Properties. This is separate from the permission to use projects, so a user can work on a project without being able to change its task properties. See Teams and permissions.
Universal and project properties
There are two kinds of task property:
- Universal properties apply to every task in every project. They are marked Universal in the list.
- Project properties apply only to the tasks in one project.
The toggle at the top switches the list between:
| Option | Shows |
|---|---|
| This Project | The properties for this project, together with the universal ones |
| Universal Only | Only the universal properties |
The property list
Each property is listed with its number, an icon for its type, and its name. Drag a property to change the order. The order is the order properties appear on a task.
Click a property to edit it. The form opens beside the list. The bin at the end of a row deletes the property, after you confirm.
Adding a property
- Choose This Project to add a property for this project only, or Universal Only to add one for every project.
- Select Add Property. The form opens beside the list.
- Enter a Property Name and an API Name, and choose the Property Type.
- Optionally add Help Text, set the property as required, and fill in any type specific settings.
- Select Save.
The form is the same one used for contact properties. See Custom properties for each field and the type specific settings.
The same 15 property types are available: Text, Multi Line, Number, Currency, Date, Email, Phone, Url, Checkbox, Radio, Select, Multiple Selection, User, Company and Person. See Property types.
A property's type cannot be changed once it has been created.
Where task properties appear
- In the Add Task and Edit Task forms, after the standard fields.
- In the task panel, under Properties. Each property can be changed there and saved on its own. See The task panel.
- In the project's task search, as filters and columns. See Searching a project's tasks.
A task cannot be saved while a required property is empty, or while any property holds a value it does not accept. When the project's tasks have a required property, adding a task on the board or the timeline opens the full Add Task form, so the property can be filled in.
