Custom properties

A custom property is a field you add to opportunities yourself, for anything the built-in fields do not cover. Opportunity properties are managed at Sales โ†’ Properties, and are separate from the properties on people and companies.

A property is collected on an opportunity only once it is attached to a pipeline or a stage. See Attaching properties to pipelines and stages.

Open in Clockwork CRMEnter your Clockwork CRM address at the top of the page to open this in your Clockwork CRM.

The property list

The list shows every opportunity property, arranged in property groups. The group decides which section a property appears in on the opportunity record and forms.

See Custom properties for the limits on each field and how the type settings work.

Attaching properties to pipelines and stages

Defining a property makes it available. Attaching it to a pipeline or a stage decides where it is collected. Each property can be attached once per pipeline: to the pipeline itself, or to one of its stages.

Attached to Where it appears
A pipeline On every opportunity in that pipeline, whatever stage it is in, under Pipeline Properties
A stage When an opportunity reaches that stage, and at every later stage, in a section named after the stage

Pipeline properties are chosen in the pipeline's Properties section, and stage properties with the Manage Properties button next to each stage. See Pipelines and stages.

A required property must be filled in before an opportunity can be added in, or moved into, a stage that uses it. Moving an opportunity forward several stages at once asks for the properties of each stage it passes.

Where properties appear

Once attached, a property appears:

  • on the Add Opportunity form, when the pipeline and stage are chosen
  • on the opportunity record, where you click a value to change it
  • on the Move and Move Stage forms
  • in Order By on the board, for the pipeline's own properties, except Multiple Selection properties

Every property, attached or not, can also be used as a filter and a column in Sales โ†’ Advanced Search.

Deleting a property or a group

  1. Point at the property or group and select the bin icon.
  2. Confirm the deletion.

A deleted property is removed from the property list and can no longer be attached to a pipeline or stage. A group can be deleted only when it is empty.
